This Long term rental property in France is near Mirepoix The Place du Maréchal-Leclerc is one of the best and most evocative medieval squares in Europe to see, and a perfect example of people friendly architecture. The medieval buildings that line the square offer the shade of ground floor arcades held up by absolutely massive beams--those of the Maison des Consuls are carved with representations of people and animals at the ends of the beams. The tourist office of Mirepoix is in this square.
Monday is the weekly outdoor market in the Place du Maréchal-Leclerc, and it shouldn`t be missed. Mirepoix will always be associated with fine French cooking, having given its name to the basic starting point of aromatic chopped vegetables consisting of carrots, onions and celery. (Actually, a chef named them after his patron, a military man from Mirepoix with the rather lengthy name of Charles-Pierre-Gaston-François de Lévis du Mirepoix.)
The church of St Maurice built in 1298 by Jean de Lévis was transformed over time into the Mirepoix cathedral--Cathédrale Saint-Maurice de Mirepoix. It`s Gothic and known for its wide nave, the second widest in Europe.

My wife and I stayed at Belcaire for a week in late Sept / Early October. The gite is situated on a hill with panoramic views of the surrounding area. Recently renovated, it was spacious and well equipped. On arrival, we were given a bowl of fruit, a bottle of wine and fresh eggs laid that morning by the hens. There were also extras like milk, spices, cooking oils etc. All unexpected, but very welcome. The owners, Andrew and Jo, were very friendly and welcoming. Andrew was very knowledgeable about the area and had prepared a booklet on local towns and sights to visit. Wi-Fi worked for our laptop and phones, but was problematic for I pads. BBC TV and a number of books were also available. We were on a cycling holiday and, at this time of year, this area is an excellent location for cycling. There is a vast network of roads that link the many small villages and cars were few and far between, except near Pamiers. The roads were also in good condition. There are a few long stretches of flat roads but mostly rolling hills, but the hills are not too steep. The Gite is on the top of a hill and you need to retain a few calories for the final climb of the day. We had a very enjoyable holiday.

We stayed at both Belcaire and Mezamet properties in August last year and they were both wonderful. Both had excellent kitchen facilities, everything you could want to prepare your wonderful French food. Both lounges had lovely comfy sofas to watch Corrie and chill out after a busy day visiting the historic towns of Carcasonne, Pau and Lourdes. There was a nice sized terrace to sit and have your bbqs whilst looking out on to miles of beautiful countryside. The bedrooms were all well equipped, good sizes and lovely views. All bathrooms had excellent showers and good views also! The gites were clean and decorated to a good standard and the owners could not have been more helpful. The swimming pool was surrounded by the countryside and an absolute delight. If you want all the pleasures of home, plus the sun and peace and quiet, and with numerous pretty towns, villages and places of historical interest to visit, then this is the place for you - we cannot recommend it highly enough.

Thank you for a wonderful holiday. The gite was very comfortable, tasteful and well equipped. The garden is beautiful, and the view from the terrace and pool are absolutely spectacular. We enjoyed evening walks, watching the sun go down over the stunning countryside. It`s a very peaceful spot. Andrew, Jo and Jasmine are very welcoming and helpful, and gave us lots of information and tips about the area. The boys enjoyed collecting eggs from the chickens and feeding the goats, and even got to go on a mini adventure when one of the dogs went AWOL! It`s a fabulous area to explore and we`d recommend visits to Mirepoix, Alet-les-Bains, Rennes-le-Chateau, Montsegur and Lac de Montbel. Thank you again.

We stopped looking at other gites when we saw the photos on the website - the picture of the pool with the rolling countryside beyond looked idyllic. And we were not disappointed. The undulating countryside surrounding Polfages is really beautiful with its backdrop of mountains. The gite itself was lovely - spacious, comfortable and very nicely furnished with a large open kitchen and a patio/outdoor dining area overlloking the garden with views across the valley. We spent a lot more time at the pool and a lot less time sightseeing than we had intended because it was just so nice to chill in such pleasant surroundings. And Andrew and Jo, the owners, made us feel very welcome on our arrival and throughout our stay.

The property is clean and homely with all the amenities that you would have in a first class rental property. Views are exceptional and there is a relaxing feel to the gite. Just what you hope for on a holiday. ! Able to sightsee or just relax overlooking the beautiful views. The beds and bedding are worth mentioning as they are superb !!! Lovely crisp clean sheets and a very comfortable bed indeed. We also took the opportunity to enjoy a meal cooked by the owners (Andrew and Jo )whilst out there as advertised . It was delicious and I would certainly take up this option again . Andrew and Jo were also able to help us with many hints and tips on what to see and where to go. Very useful when the area is new to you. They both made you very welcome indeed. We will be returning in May next year. Already booked.
