Limousin is a former region of France, that has now become part of the larger region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. It comprises three French departments: Corrèze, Creuse, and Haute-Vienne. It is a very rural area of France and is the least densely-populated area in mainland France. The Limousin is a major beef farming centre, with the distinctive herds of red Limousin cattle common throughout the region. The local forests also supply many timber related industries. The local French Oaks continue to provide the wood for the barrels of Rémy Martin brandy
The Corrèze department was the birthplace of 3 French Popes, 2 former Presidents of France (Jaques Chirac and Francois Hollande) and also the accordion! I would probably argue that the accordion has had the most impact on French life!! The department is also famous for its wild mushrooms and chestnuts. Correze is also home to five of the “plus beaux villages de France ” - Saint-Robert, Segur le Chateau, Collonges la Rouge, Curemonte and and Turenne.
Chaumeil is located in the heart of the Regional Park of the Millevaches, a protected area of 3,143 km2 and the 6th largest National park in France. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty, with granite hills, dense woodland and plenty of hiking paths. This high plateau (between 700 and 1,000 meters above sea level) is the source of over 11 rivers.
There is a restaurant and bar in the village, as well as daily meat and bread deliveries. The nearest supermarket is 20 minutes away (in Corrèze).
There is a train station at Tulle (30 mins) with regional services to Limoges where you can pick up TGV services.
The nearest airport to Chaumeil is Brive airport in the Dordogne valley. The airport is 1 hour from Chaumeil and fetures regular flights to Paris and London Stansted.
Chaumeil is located 22 km North-East of Tulle, 15 km North-West of Egletons and 10 km south-east of Treignac, in the heart of the Limousin region.
