Carcassonne is a great place to be based for a long stay in the South of France. The city is famous because of its magnificent medieval castle, which is the second most visited historical monument in France. The town has its own airport, a train station and the A62 motorway passes right by, connecting the Mediterranean coast to the Atlantic coast. The Mediterranean beaches close to Narbonne are just 45 mins drive.
Villa Nano is available for long term rentals between October to May from €900 per month + bills. 12 month annual rentals are also available (from €1200 per month + bills). Pets may be accepted through prior agreement.

This spacious villa is laid out over 2 floors and encompasses 80m2 of living space. The villa is heated throughout by oil central heating system.
Ground floor
- The entrance hall provides access to the garage, a WC, the kitchen and living room and the stairs up to the first floor.
- The dining room has a table with seating for up to 6 people and an antique sideboard. A set of French windows leads out on to a small terrace and side garden which enjoys sun throughout the day.
- The lounge comes equipped with a large sofa and an armchair and a flat screen TV.
- The fully fitted kitchen comes equipped with an oven, hob, large fridge-freezer, dishwasher, microwave/oven, kettle, coffee machine and plenty of storage. The kitchen is equipped with a full set of plates, glasses, cutlery and cooking utensils.
- There is a double length garage which can be used for parking or for storage. The garage also contains the washing machine, tumble dryer and central heating system.
First floor
- There are 3 double bedrooms all of which are a good size. 2 of the bedrooms have a fitted wardrobe.
- The family bathroom contains a shower and a wash basin.
Outside
- The villa comes with an enclosed garden, which contains an above ground swimming pool and a BBQ area. There is a nice terrace just off the dining room which is a real sun trap.
- The driveway provides parking for 2 cars or a motorhome. Further parking is available in front of the gates and in the garage.

Last visited: February 2025. This villa is ideally located just 10 mins walk from the centre of Carcassonne and is situated in a quiet residential neighbourhood. Nearby there are shops, a supermarket, a restaurant and services. A wider choice of facilities is available in Carcassonne town centre (10 mins walk). The villa benefits from an enclosed garden, pool and plenty of storage in the large garage. There is parking for 2 cars.
One month's deposit to be paid at the time of reservation. Rent to be paid on the first day of each month. In addition to the rent, there is a provision of €250 per month towards the electricity, water and Wi-Fi. Minimum stay is 3 months.

Area activities
Carcassonne has a population of around 48,000 people. The area around Carcassonne was an important centre of the Cathars (a religious movement similar to the Quakers). The Cathars were virtually wiped out during 13th Century crusade ordered by the Pope. There are many Cathar ruins in the area including the castles at Quéribus and Peyrepertuse.
Carcassonne's restaurant scene is absolutely buzzing at the moment. In recent years there has been a flurry of interesting new restaurants opening in Carcassonne. There are now two Michelin star restaurants in Carcassonne (Le Table de Franck Putelat and La Barbacane), as well as 7 other restaurants that have entries in the Michelin guide.
Carcassonne festival is the 10th largest festival in France, both in terms of number of spectators (over 200,000 over the month long programme) and by the number of events (over 120 concerts, theatre productions, dance events, plus the medieval jousting and the medieval faire). The festival takes place throughout July, with nightly performances in the castle's amphitheatre and venues throughout the town.
You will find a good range of shops in Carcassonne, from high street stores to little boutiques. There are a couple of small shopping malls on the outskirts of Carcassonne. In the centre of Carcassonne, the best shopping areas are located in Bastide Saint-Louis (the 'new town' of Carcassonne below the castle). In particular, head for Rue de Verdun and Rue Georges Clémenceau, where you will everything from small boutiques, cosmetic and perfume stores, shoe shops, trendy clothes shops, second-hand bookshops, etc.
In terms of markets, on Boulevard Barbès, there is a market selling new and second hand clothes and on Place Carnot there is a popular food and general goods market. The market is held at Place Carnot every Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday morning. The Saturday morning market attracts a lot of Organic food producers.
Other transport
Carcassonne Railway Station is 20 minutes walk from the villa. You can catch trains to Bordeaux, Toulouse, Narbonne, Perpignan, Montpellier and Marseille.
Airports
Carcassonne has its own airport, with Ryanair flights to the UK (Manchester, London and East Midlands), Brussels, Ireland (Dublin & Cork) and Portugal.
Toulouse airport has a wider selection of flights and is 1 hour away.
Driving directions
Carcassonne is located close to the A62 motorway which runs in between Narbonne and Toulouse.
