Last visited: September 2024. This stunning cottage in the heart of the Dordogne countryside is the perfect place to stay if you are looking for peace and tranquility. The cottage is surrounded by a private estate of 22 acres. Inside, the cottage has 3 comfortable bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a large lounge and sitting room and a well-equipped kitchen. The cottage has parking for several cars and is ideally set up for remote working.
1 month deposit to be paid at time of reservation. Rent to be paid in advance at the start of each month. Utility bills (electric, water, Wi-Fi and heating fuel) to be paid in addition to the monthly rent (€300 monthly provision). Firewood to be purchased separately. La Chartreuse du Sord is located in a beautiful area of Dordogne, with open countryside all around. The Dordogne is famous for its gastronomy, especially its Black Truffles, foie gras, Bergerac wines, chestnuts, walnuts and wild mushrooms. The local Périgueux sauce which is used in a lot of traditional dishes, is made from a reduction of white wine, carrots, shallots, veal stock and diced truffle.
The popular medieval village of Issigeac is just a couple of minutes down the road and here you will find a weekly market, 2 restaurants, a shop, friendly bar and a bank.
The beautiful town of Bergerac, on the banks of the Dordogne river is a great place to explore and just 15 mins up the road. Here you will find some excellent restaurants, great shopping and a range of services.
The World famous vineyards in Saint-Émilion have been producing high quality Bordeaux wines since Roman times. Perched on the banks of the Dordogne river, Saint Emilion benefits from gentle south-facing slopes, limestone and clay soils and a mild climate - all perfect for growing vines. The vineyards surrounding St Emilion are officially classifed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site and welcome over 1 million visitors each year. The landscape is dotted with beautiful Chateaux, lush vineyards and ancient villages.
The popular market town of Eymet is just a short drive away and is one of the prettiest towns in Dordogne. The town retains the original grid streets, a fortified castle and the ancient rampart walls. Eymet offers a good range of shops, services and facilities, as well as a wide variety of festivals and events throughout the year (including the the Oyster and White Wine Festival and the Annual Nature Festival). There is a weekly market held on Thursdays throughout the year.
The city of Bordeaux is one of the most walk-able cities in France. The city is located on the banks of the Gironde river and it is home to the longest shopping street in Europe, some fantastic restaurants and the excellent Cité du Vin - a futuristic-looking museum of wine making. Bordeaux is 1 hour 45 mins drive away, or just over an hour away on the train from Bergerac.
There are 3 golf courses within 30 mins drive (including the championship course at Château des Vigiers). Alternatively, you can explore the Dordogne landscape with its castles, vineyards and local markets by bike or horse.
There is a train station in Bergerac with services to Paris, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Périgueux and Sarlat.
Le Petit Manoir is located just 15 mins from Bergerac airport, which has regular flights from the UK (Bournemouth, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Southampton, Bristol, London Stansted, London City and East Midlands airport), Rotterdam and Brussels Charleroi.
Bordeaux airport is 1 hour 45 mins and Toulouse airport is 2 hours 20 mins.
